HOT COFFEE! (12/30)

April 12, 2018

poetry 12-30 H-hot

steam rises, wafting
breathe deeply, anticipate
imminent delight

draw in magic scent
eyes closed, hands around warm mug
tongue inches forward

gentle contact made
slurpy sip slowly consumed
palate meets pleasure

morning medicine
I am revived and ready
coffee, hot and black

Poetry 11-30 G-gold-1

golden sunrise

in my eyes

sky’s ablaze

with magic rays

gold medal day

is under way

spring stands still

air is chill

sun is warm

will soon transform

lift our moods

winter concludes

Poetry 11-30 G-gold-2

Fiery Cardinal (10/30)

April 11, 2018

Fiery cardinal

calls to his mate

calls to spring

tree branch is bare

spring is late

his song won’t bring

the fresher air

while we wait

the crimson king

sings without care

ephemeral beauty (9/30)

April 10, 2018

poetry 9-30 E-ephemeral

white, pink, blue, purple

when you’re fresh you’re beautiful

freshness is fleeting

Dainty (8/30)

April 10, 2018

poetry 8-30 D-dainty

the cat comes in

on little snow feet

she makes her rounds

the day to greet

she moves around

without a sound

the air is sweet

with the smell of snow

she pauses now—

where next to go?

cat coasts (7/30)

April 8, 2018

curled tail wards off fiends

look at the tip twitching now

what’s that over there

something is nearing

the mysterious unknown

staring intently

sit and wait a bit

scamper away in a flash

stop and wait some more

a skeptical glance

nose doesn’t leave warmth of tail

older and wiser

Poetry 6-30 B-branch-1

bracing wind bare tree
branches vie for attention
nothing left to give

bare tree branches wave
against the sky become free
slice a rift in air

waving branch believes
she answers to no one else
now embraces sky

street signs with arrows

Day after day
life goes one way.
You’re not deterred,
your dreams aren’t deferred.
You work and play,
and time ticks away.
Potential rises,
you find surprises.
Stay the wallflower,
acquiesce the power.
Or grab the chance
to come out of your trance.
Behold the arrow,
turn wide or narrow.
You go one way
and there is no stopping.

Oberon Street* (4/30)

April 4, 2018

poetry 4-30 four beers

Sunny Day
Drinking my cares away
On my way to where the wheat is sweet

Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Oberon Street

Drink all day
Everything’s A-OK
Friendly beer store’s where
I meet my needs

Can you tell me how to get
How to get to Oberon Street

It’s a magic summer ale
I enjoy it without fail
I’m happy through and through—
Summer in a beer
We’re all happy here

Sunny Day
I suddenly feel OK
On my way to where my sleep is deep

Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Oberon Street…

poetry 3-30 three bars

Through three blue bars

the world is white and wonderful

The sky sneezes snowflakes

in a cold that continues to cling

Nature refuses to be nudged nearer to normal

and the brightness of the blanket blinds us bit by bit

Why winter won’t wither away?
